Loss Prevention 2010

The 13th International Symposium on Loss Prevention and Safety Promotion in the Process Industries was in Brugge, Belgium. The official web-site was Loss Prevention 2010, and it is clear from the web-site, that this was an official EFCE event.

More than 350 participants!

The number of participants registered for this symposium was 363 participants.
  • 50% from industry
  • 30% from institutions,
  • 20% from universities.
So even though LP 2010 was simultaneously with the annual ESCAPE conference the event continued to attract a large number of industrialist.

This symposium started on Sunday June 6th with a welcoming reception at the only remaining operatonal brewery in the city of Brugge - Huisbrouwerij De Halve Mann on Walplain 26 in Brugge.

The technical program opened on the morning of Monday June 7th and closed at lunchtime on Wednesday June 9th. The program was arranged in four parallel tracks. The chairman of the local organising committee was Eddy de Rademaker, who was assisted by Rita Peys and Annie De Wit in the many practical aspect of arranging such a symposium. The chairman of the scientific program comittee was Georg Suter.

This was the first symposium with 30 minute and 15 minutes presentations (The 15 minute presentations replaced the 10 minute ones at previous symposia) plus poster presentations. At the post symposium meeting the use of 30 minute and 15 minute timeslots was judged to be a success, as was also the wireless headsets for the speakers.

On the social side this symposium also featured a reception at the Brugge Town Hall followed by a channel boat tour on Monday evening and a medieval conference dinner at an old church in Brugge on Tuesday evening with pre-dinner drinks served in a light evening rain outside the church building.
